About me

How did kurt creative actually come about? On this page you can find out more about the background to my company.

I could certainly have called my company “Woischytzky & Co.” so that I could hang around at pitch events every weekend armed with business cards… But that wouldn’t be “à la Kurt”.

It was clear to me very early on that I didn’t want to continue weaving the old braids of the media industry. Instead, I used my experience from the radio industry to build an authentic and unique brand with the help of content marketing.

My company, kurt creative, is not another standard production company. We don’t participate in pitches or tenders, we don’t aim to be the cheapest or the most persistent acquirers – kurt creative is an expert brand that combines all facets of my professional career to date and is firmly fused with me as the owner.

How I made my first ideas visible

“Making ideas visible” is not only kurt creative’s company motto, but was also my biggest hobby when I was young: I discovered how clearly I could express myself and my ideas in sound and video while working for non-commercial local radio stations in Thuringia. One of my first radio reports was nominated for the Central Germany Radio Prize in the “Young talent up to 18 years” category, which was my first big stepping stone. That’s how I landed my first internship at a large private radio station in Halle (Saale). I got the chance to work there as a freelancer in the editorial department and learn from professionals for the first time. This is where my journey as a content creator began – even though the term didn’t even exist back then.

Get a few years older

As I was getting closer to graduating from high school, I asked myself: where should I go? Continuing to work in radio would have been an option – but it would have been badly paid. What’s more, I already had so many ideas “in stock” from my own projects that I preferred to follow my intuition and try my hand at founding my first company at the age of 19 – as a speaker and producer. Content marketing was still a foreign concept back then, so I tried to become known in the usual ways: Through cold calling and direct mail – and failed miserably! Yes, that’s also part of my journey… I realized how difficult it is to set up a traditional “me too” company as a completely new market player.

So I initially followed advice that you don’t like to hear at this age: get a few years older first. My thirst for adventure took me to Berlin, where I studied communications management while working as a student trainee at the radio station BB Radio. Immediately after my bachelor’s degree, I was employed there full-time as a producer.

Content marketing: The starting signal for my company

What does a producer do on the radio? Simply put, everything that can be heard on air but is not live: trailers, commercials, jingles and more. I sat at the crossing between editorial, sales and on-air promotion and gained a lot of professional experience during this time. Everything I learned there was a perfect basis for my second start-up attempt. And this time it was also successful – because there was one crucial difference: instead of getting stuck in a hamster wheel of acquisition and applications, this time my customers actively approached me. It was the year 2019 and podcasts were really taking off in Germany.

I published a few YouTube videos on this hot topic and laid the foundation for my current expert brand. Since then, content marketing has become my great passion and quickly gave my company a big boost. I was motivated above all by the idea of not just passively doing jobs, but also passing on my knowledge and inspiring other people. Without the inspiration and tips from experienced colleagues in radio, I would never have been able to develop so quickly.

A company “à la Kurt”

After just a short time, my tutorials and my newly created expert brand became so well known that I was able to run my company kurt creative full-time. And more than that: after just a few months, I hired my first team members to cope with the growing demand from my customers. And I made a big mistake in the process: although my content marketing was now running 100% according to my clockwork, I organized the remaining processes in the same way as I had done in my previous jobs: With a stationary office, tight deadlines and phone duty from 9am to 5pm…. Had I become self-employed for this? Definitely not.

So at the end of 2021, I decided to radically rethink the operational part of my company. How do I want to work on a day-to-day basis? What values are important to me and how do I find customers who share these values? From this point on, kurt creative became a 100% digital company that can adapt perfectly to the challenges of our turbulent era thanks to agile processes and a team of freelancers – and does so in a relaxed, authentic and passionate way.

¡Vamos a Madrid!

After putting my company on a stable digital footing in 2022 and extensively practising 100% remote operation, I fulfilled a personal dream: During stays of several weeks in Málaga, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona, I was able to gain my first experience as a digital nomad. First for a few days, later for several weeks, I managed my company completely from the road. Due to the consistently positive experiences and my love of Spanish culture, I finally moved to Madrid in the summer of 2023 and simply “took my company with me”. I am really surprised at how business-friendly and highly digital the Spanish administration is in contrast to that in Germany and can only recommend this experience to anyone (one/two weeks is enough at the beginning 😉)
